What is IDEM-Tester​

IDEM-Tester is a modular, independent web application that can be queried via REST API. The application is capable of validating and testing the metadata of organizations wishing to join the IDEM GARR AAI Italian Education and Research Federation, starting from the SAML metadata URL of a single entity provided by the user.

To join the IDEM Federation, each organization must sign the membership forms and register its SAML entities in the IDEM Test Federation. Each organization participates in IDEM as a digital identity manager with its own Identity Provider (IdP) and can provide federated services through its own Service Providers (SP). For the membership request to be successful, the metadata of the registered entities must comply with the requirements gathered in the Technical-Operational Profile.

To maintain the high quality of the information publicly distributed by the IDEM Federation metadata, it is necessary to periodically verify compliance with these requirements by its participants. Within this context, the IDEM-Tester application aims to improve the entry procedure to the IDEM Federation by simplifying the metadata validation process for IdP and SP entities.

Service Recipients​

The target users of the IDEM-Tester application are:

  • External Organizations: who can verify compliance with IDEM Federation membership requirements before moving into production.
  • Member Organizations: who can evaluate the status of their metadata over time.
  • IDEM GARR Service: which can periodically monitor the quality of the Federation's metadata through an automated process.
